I took the chance to drive out to South Queensferry this evening because the weather was calm, the skies were clear, and there was the promise of a stunning sunset. I set up my Mavic 3 Pro drone from Port Edgar Marina, conveniently located just outside the airport’s FRZ (Flight-Restricted Zone), although provides plenty of other hazards to watch out for. I took off during the ‘Golden Hour’, where the light was soft, casting a warm, golden hue over everything.
As the sun descended, I spotted sailing boats out on the water and managed to frame them against the backdrop of the Queensferry Crossing. While it would have been great to descend a little lower and get closer in, I didn’t want to buzz them with the big drone, it’s a noisy beast.

I also wanted a few further out over the Forth, looking through the cables on the new bridge. I waited for a few vehicles to come along to provide some scale, and managed to capture the truck positioned below the sun’s rays.

These two photos are from about 40 odd images taken on every setting you can imagine, most of them manually set given how easily camera meters are fooled by sunsets. I’m happy with these and plan to return at some point when time (and the weather) permits.
