Bruntsfield September 2023

I took this panoramic photo of Bruntsfield one morning (you can just detect a faint pinkish glow in the sky), the drone hovered 120 metres above Montpelier Park. Despite the Mini 3 Pro’s small sensor, and the relatively dull weather, it’s picked up a lot of detail. The image was made by stitching together 6 separate photos and processing it through software to squeeze out as much clarity as possible.

The best way to view the image is to click the Toggle full page button on the control bar at the top of the photo. You can then use the controls to zoom and your mouse or your finger (on a mobile device) to pan around. Alternatively you can open a new tab with the full screen image by clicking here.

Landmarks

Some of the visible landmarks include (tick them off!) Arthur’s Seat, the Castle, Bruntsfield Links and the Meadows, Leamington Lift Bridge, the Union Canal, the International Conference Centre, Fountain Park, the roof of the Usher Hall, Donaldson’s School (the swish Playfair Building at West Coates), the Lauriston Building, Edinburgh College of Art, Calton Hill, Inch Keith Island, and (in the distance) North Berwick Law and Bass Rock.

The new canal side Boroughmuir High School can be seen to the left, as well as the building it replace on Viewforth (now luxury apartments). Also, the original orange sandstone Boroughmuir School can be seen at the top of the Links – this was renamed James Gillespies in 1913. Bruntsfield Primary School can be seen to the right of the image. I feel a separate post coming on about this subject!
